East Garner wins grant

East Garner Elementary School is one of the two Wake County schools to receive a $1,000 grant from America’s Milk Processors forthe school’s “Fuel Up to Play 60 Breakfast Blitz” program.

MilkPEP provided $250,000 in grants to winning schools across the country to improve access to healthy breakfast options. As part of the breakfast blitz program, parents and students went online and voted for their school to win a Fuel Up to Play 60 grant.

Parents were invited to visit the MilkMustache web site and enter the Universal Product Code from any milk carton, vote for their child’s school and enter to win prizes. The schools with the most votes received the grants.

Book fair

Johnston County Home Educators will hold its annual book fair and homeschool conference 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church, 652 Swift Creek Road., Smithfield. Admission is free. For more information visit, or Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.

Lowry heads to science camp

Megan Lowry, a rising senior at Wake Christian Academy, has been selected to participate in a science research camp this summer at N.C. State University.
