The PTA at Cleveland Elementary School will host Santa’s Workshop from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m, Saturday, Dec. 3 at the school, at 10225 Cleveland Road, Clayton. Visitors can chat with Santa Claus, shop and participate in a silent auction. There will also be a children’s area available.
The Johnston County Public Health Department will host a free two-part parenting class for parents of children up to five years of age. The classes will be held Dec. 6 and 13 from 4-6 p.m. at the Johnston County Public Health Department, 517 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield. Topics include taking care of sick children, immunizations, CPR and first aid, car seat safety, dental health and child development and discipline. Free HIV testing
Johnston County residents can get free HIV testing at the Johnston County Public Health Department between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Dec. 1. No appointments are necessary. Test results will be provided the same day. The Health Department is at 517 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield.
Johnston County Amateur Radio
The Johnston County Amateur Radio Emergency Service is looking for licensed amateur radio operators interested in providing auxiliary communications in times of disaster.
You do not have to be a resident of Johnston County to volunteer. ARES meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the American Red Cross office, 805-A S. Third St., Smithfield.
Personal finance workshop
The Town of Garner will host two personal finance workshops on Monday, Dec. 5. A money management workshop focusing on helping people discern their spending habits will be held starting at 10 a.m. at Garner Performing Arts Center (742 W. Garner Road). The second workshop, “Good Debt, Bad Debt: Using Credit Wisely,” will start at 1:30 p.m., also at GPAC. Both workshops are free. Johnston County MS Support Group
The Johnston County MS Support Group meets at 11 a.m. the third Tuesday of the month at The Church at Clayton Crossings, 11407 U.S. 70 W., Clayton. These free meetings are open to people with multiple sclerosis and their families.

Partnership for Children of Johnston County offers two programs for parents with young children.
Motheread is a 12-week self-paced program that combines teaching literacy skills with child development and family empowerment.
The Incredible Years parent program offers weekly group sessions for 14 to 16 weeks.
Participants learn to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills.
