Garner Woman’s Club Awards Banquet
The Garner Woman’s Club held its annual awards banquet May 14.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement of Michelle Uphold as the Clubwoman of the Year for 2014-2015. Club members vote by secret ballot for the Clubwoman of the Year at their April meeting. Uphold has been an important part of the club in many ways, but mostly in the way of planning and executing numerous fundraisers to help the club in its projects for various charities and the community.
The program began with scholarship chair Anne McLawhorn recognizing this year’s scholarship winners. First place winner was Montana Dare who won the $1,500 scholarship and runner-up was Hannah Newkirk who won $750.
Never miss a local story.
Stephanie Wallace, district VI president of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs of North Carolina, installed the new club officers: Gloria Parrish, president; Michelle Uphold, first vice president; Jann Layman, second vice president; Barbara Kennedy, secretary; and Mary Lee, treasurer.
Parrish recognized Mary Lee with her 25-year membership pin and thanked her for her service, loyalty, and leadership in the club.
Belinda Hiltbruner, Jann Layman, Faye Marshburn, Carole Moore, Uphold and Debbie West were given certificates for Outstanding Attendance because they only missed one meeting during the past year. Sharon Verity had a perfect attendance record and received a medal for her achievement.
Kathy Behringer received a medal for selling the most tickets for the Christmas Tour of Homes, an annual fundraiser to provide scholarships for high school seniors. She was also presented a Past Club President pin with the coordinating bar pins for the four years she served.
