Coats family reunion and picnic
Descendants of Amos “Babe” and Lenora “Nora” Wood Coats will have a family reunion and old fashioned picnic, at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Clemmons Educational State Forest on Old Highway 70 about 1.3 miles west of Clayton. Anyone with historical information, articles, pictures, and other memorabilia are encouraged to bring them for display.
Garner artist’s exhibit
An art show of local artists will be presented by the Arts League of Garner from Sept. 28-Nov. 20, at the Garner Senior Center, 205 East Garner Road. The public is welcome to view the artwork on display.
Garner Senior High 30-year reunion
The Garner Senior High Class of 1985 will hold its 30-year reunion Oct. 2-3. Class members and their families are invited to the Garner Trojans homecoming game at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Trojan Stadium, 2101 Spring Drive, Garner. General admission is $7 per person; a section of bleachers will be reserved for the Class of 1985. A celebration with dinner, music and dancing will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight Oct. 3, at the Garner Optimist Club, 2110 Vandora Springs Road, Garner. The Garner Optimist Club is hosting its 17th annual golf tournament on Sunday, October 4, at Reedy Creek Golf Course. Tee time is 1 p.m. Format is super ball/captain’s choice four-man teams. Entry fee is $65 per player/$260 per team. Profits will go to St. Baldrick’s Childhood Cancer Foundation. Lunch and dinner will be served. The tournament is limited to 32 teams. Reception with Garner artists
The Arts League of Garner invites the public to a reception featuring Garner artists, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7, at Garner Senior Center, 205 East Garner Road.
The South Wake County VFW Post 10225 is hosting a pair of fundraisers to support construction of their new facility. There will be a crockpot dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 9. Cost is $8 per plate or $10 for all you can eat. On Oct. 23 Post members will host a barbecue plate sale from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. or until the food runs out. Cost is $8 per plate. The Post home is at 1706 W. Garner Road in Garner.
TOPS Chapter 0678
Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Chapter 0678 meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays at The Garner Senior Center, 205 E. Garner Road, Garner. The purpose of the group is to provide support, share information about healthy living and celebrate success with weight loss. Participants must pay $32 for yearly national dues and $3 monthly local dues.
Johnston County MS Support Group
The Johnston County MS Support Group meets at 11 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at The Church at Clayton Crossings, 11407 US Hwy 70 W. Clayton. The group is open to those dealing with MS and their families and is free of charge.

Partnership for Children of Johnston County offers two programs for parents with young children.
Motheread is a 12-week self-paced program that combines the teaching of literacy skills with child development and family empowerment issues.
The Incredible Years parent program offers weekly group sessions for 14 to 16 weeks. Participants practice skills to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills.
