Garner residents make Chowan University’s honors lists
Necole Watson, a senior at Chowan University majoring in graphic design, was included in Chowan’s President’s list. The honor is reserved for those students who earned a grade point average of 3.8 or better.
Jaylon Lynn, a freshman majoring in biology, was named to Chowan University’s Dean’s list. The honor is reserved for those students who earned a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79 for the semester.
13 earn BLET certification from JCC

Thirteen students graduated from Johnston Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program.
The 17-week certification program gives students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments and with private enterprise.
The following students earned their BLET certification: Ethan Core of Dunn; Marshall Tate of Four Oaks; Joshua Barbour of Four Oaks; Cody Stevens of Angier; Taylor Davis of Clayton; Brandon Sherrod of Raleigh; Mark Fidler of Clayton; Cody Lee of Raleigh; Virginia Harter of Four Oaks; Jose Angel of Four Oaks, William Hopkins of Smithfield; Megan Williams of Smithfield; and Cathryn Price of Clayton.
Local student earns Girl Scout award
Freya Smith of Garner has been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award by Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines. The award is the second highest achievement in Girl Scouting. Smith is the daughter of Mike and Christie Smith and has been a Girl Scout since 2010.
