As a former fire chief with 40 years of experience serving fire departments with budgets ranging from $900,000 to $16.6M annually, I believe the last thing you would use to determine the quality of the fire protection is by comparing budgets with other departments in a given area. It can be a factor in evaluation however, it should not be the final decision-maker.
My suggestion is for Wake County and Garner to start looking toward the value of entering the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc. (CPSE) Accreditation Program, administered by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).
I would suggest Garner and Wake County leaders invite Chief Raymond “Allan” Cain, fire chief for the Cary Fire Department and chairman of the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) to make a presentation to Wake County, town/city leaders and all fire departments within the county on how they can provide quality service at a reduced cost.
Never miss a local story.
