Need for apartments masks a bigger problem
In reference to your editorial “Apartments are good for Garner, experts say,” what your “experts“ say is the sun rising, may be the headlamp of a train.
Your “experts” (Garner Planning Director Brad Bass, Town Council Member Buck Kennedy and Tim Minton, NC Homebuilders Assn.) seem to think that the increase in apartment unit construction in Garner is a “good thing.” For them it is. It is more money in their pockets.
If they really cared about Garner and America, they would talk about the elephant in the room: a very large factor in the rising demand is the tidal wave of illegal aliens coming to the area. This is not a secret.
In the absence of legal proof of citizenship they are forced to rent. It is not such a “good thing” for legitimate, local jobseekers. Anyone that does not acknowledge this nexus is either clueless or being dishonest.
If we citizens, civic leaders and business associations don’t get real with this menacing issue, America as we know it, will fade into the darkness of third-world status.
