There is some question as to how much the new Garner YMCA and the town of Garner’s new recreation center will compete with each other for members and programming participants. In that vein, some might question the wisdom of the town’s gift of $100,000 toward completion of the new Y.
Both groups say they intend to work together and we are sure they will do so when it is possible.
Regardless of how much or how little the two groups work together, the town’s investment is a wise one.
In spite of the fact that the town is putting considerable amounts of its own money into the recreation center, it’s hard to argue that facility alone with will meet all the town’s recreational needs. It’s an added bonus that a private entity with the stature and the resources of a YMCA can provide some of those services.
With a relatively small amount of money – especially when it’s spread out over time, we’d say the town used its resources wisely.
