Edgebrook Eels rule Southern Metro Swim League once again

The Edgebrook Eels swept the team championships during the Southern Metro Swim League Championships Saturday at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. The Eels, based out of Garner, totaled 516 combined team points. They notched 255 points in the girls’ competition to win there and another 261 to lead the boys’ teams.
More than 500 swimmers took part in the championships.
The Pineville Piranhas from Clayton were the overall runners up, followed by the Smithfield Sharks, swimming in their home pool. Garner’s Turner Farms Marlins were fourth, followed by nearby Hampton Ridge. The McGee’s Crossroads Manta Rays were sixth, Glen Laurel’s Gators seventh and the Hammerheads of HealthQuest of Smithfield rounded out the standings.
In the girls’ competition, Turner Farms was second with Pineville third and McGee’s Crossroads fourth.
On the boys’ side, Pineville took second with the Sharks third and Hampton Ridge fourth.
The championship was Edgebrook’s fourth straight in the league.
