Kristin Power to play softball, soccer at Mount Olive

Why Mount Olive? “The coaches were great, I liked both of them. The softball program has a great group of girls and the same for the soccer team. My sister’s on the soccer team. And I really liked the campus size.”

Major: Biology

Notable: Kristin will continue to play two sports she’s played since age 7 for softball and age 3 for soccer at the college level. “I’ve came all this way playing both, if I have the opportunity to keep doing it, I want to do that,” she said. She has given up other pursuits to concentrate on those two sports. In her early high school days there was basketball, volleyball and dance in addition to soccer and softball. … On the soccer field, Kristin helped lead West Johnston to three conference championships and totaled 31 career goals and 42 career assists. She will play midfield at Mount Olive. … She’ll remember her teammates for their consistency in soccer. “The team was always good even though we didn’t have any consistent coaching,” Kristin said. West had four different head coaches during her prep career. … In softball, she was a part of West Johnston’s regional finalist squad in 2013 and led the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference in batting average and slugging as a senior in 2014. She played shortstop and center field for the Wildcats and also has experience at second base from travel ball. … She was a multiple time all-conference selection in both sports. … Lauren Power, Kristin’s older sister, is a junior forward on the Trojans’ soccer team. … Kristin is considering the veterinary medicine field.
