Indoor winter walking
Get out of the cold and walk in the comfort of a heated gym at the Avery Street Recreation Center from 9-10 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays now until March 27. There will be no walking from Dec. 22 until Jan. 2 and Jan. 19. There is no fee.

Adult open gym
Adult open gym organized pick-up basketball games are played from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Avery Street Recreation Center. Ages 18 and older can participate. The cost is $2-3. Registration is not required. Open gym will not be held Dec. 24 or Dec. 31.
The Garner Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of sports for preschoolers (ages 4-5) including soccer, T-ball, basketball, floor hockey and flag football. Preschool soccer is set for Wednesdays from Jan. 7-21 for 45-minute sessions at 5 and 6 p.m. Basketball is Feb. 4-18 at the same days and times. T-ball will be held March 4-18 on the same days and times. A general sports intro for ages 3-4 is also planned on Tuesdays from Feb. 24 until March 10 at 10 a.m. The cost for each sport is $17-23.
Beginner gymnastics is offered in Garner at Artistic Gymnastics Tuesdays, March 5-19 at 7 p.m. The cost is $31-40.
Recreational softball league
A recreational softball league for ages 18 and older played under USSSA rules will be offered this spring in Garner. The fee is $475 per team and $32 per non-resident of the town of Garner on the team roster. Register by March 9.
Men’s 50-plus softball league
A competitive softball league for ages 50 and older will be offered in Garner this spring. The fee is $475 per team and $32 per non-resident of the town of Garner on the team roster. Register by March 9.
30-and-older basketball league
An adult basketball league for ages 30 and up will be offered this spring in Garner. Teams will be divided on the night of the league meeting, Tuesday, March 10. The fee is $73-95 per player.
Preschool sports leagues
Preschool sports leagues for ages 4-5 are instruction-based and focus on teamwork and sportsmanship. All leagues will have five practices and three games on Saturday mornings at either 8:30 or 9:30 at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The cost is $35-46 per sport.
Youth open gym at Avery Street Recreation Center
Youth open gym sessions for ages 6-17 will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturdays at the Avery Street Recreation Center from Feb. 7 until March 28. There are games, activities and basketball available each week. There is no charge for the event.
Volunteer Youth Coaches

Fitness Classes and Activities
The Garner Parks Department offers a variety of fitness training classes including Zumba, belly dancing, dancing, step classes and more. For info, visit garnernc.gov or call the Parks Department.
An assortment of junior tennis lessons for ages 8-17 will be held throughout the summer at the South Garner Tennis Courts. Most sessions run four weeks and feature hour-long instruction sessions. Fees range from $30-84 depending on the age group and level of play. Contact the Parks Dept. for specifics.
Adult tennis lessons are also available in four-week cycles throughout the year. The cost is $76-99. Contact the Parks Dept. for dates.
Pilates classes resume in January
A new session of Pilates classes with the Clayton Parks and Recreation Department begins in January. Pilates emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility and awareness. Classes are available on Wednesdays (starting Jan. 7) from 6-7 p.m. and on Thursdays (starting Jan. 8) from 8:45 until 9:45 a.m. Classes run six weeks and are for ages 16 and up. The fee is $20-35.
Clayton Community Center Memberships
Memberships for use of the Clayton Community Center are available through the Clayton Parks and Recreation Department for residents of the Town of Clayton and non-residents. Non-residents rates vary from $50-160 yearly (depending on ages/numbers of family members), $8-20 monthly or $6-10 monthly. Residents fees are only $5 per year.

Youth spring baseball and softball
The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department offers T-Ball for ages 5-6 (as of July 31, 2015), Coach-Pitch baseball for ages 7-8 (as of May 1, 2015), Tar Heel Leagues baseball for ages 9-14 (as of May 1, 2015) and fast-pitch softball for ages 7-14 (as of Jan. 1, 2015).
Softball will begin in mid-March and baseball starts in mid-April. The seasons run until mid-June.
Registration for residents and family annual members runs Jan. 6 until Feb. 6 and open registration is from Jan. 21 until Feb. 3. The fee is $25-60.
Spring men’s softball
Men’s softball for ages 18 and up wil be offered through the Clayton Parks Department this spring. A minimum of six teams are needed for the league. The cost is $550 for the team, plus an additional $40 for non-residents of Clayton on the team roster. Registration is from Jan. 1 until Feb. 2 or until the league is full.

Seven-on-seven soccer leagues for men and women will be offered by the Clayton Parks Dept. this spring. Two leagues are planned with matches on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The fee is $350 per team, plus an additional $40 for non-residents of Clayton on the team roster. Registration is open from Jan. 5 until Jan. 2 or until the league is full.
