Four Cleveland athletes earn MVP honors

Four Cleveland athletes were named the best in the Two Rivers 3A Conference for the winter season, collecting player of the year honors in their respective sports. Swimmers Dalton Langston and Kaylee Davis were honored, as well as basketball standout Bobby Stenborg and state qualifying wrestler Javonte Moon.
South Johnston senior Anna Webster was the girls basketball player of the year, helping lead the Trojans to the regular-season conference championship. South’s Ronda Langdon Johnson was the coach of the year in girls basketball.
Corinth Holders swept the girls winter track and field awards with Essence Scott earning player of the year honors and Peter Clark being named coach of the year.
The conference also handed out team sportsmanship awards in each sport. Local sportsmanship award-winning teams included Corinth Holders’ girls basketball team, Smithfield-Selma in wrestling and South Johnston in boys and girls track.
Amy Reese of Cleveland was the coach of the year in girls and boys swimming.
