South Johnston rebounds from loss
South Johnston baseball held off Western Harnett for a 7-4 victory on Thursday.
Trojans pitcher Dillon Lee got the win in relief. Producing for South Johnston at the plate were Josh Stikeleather and Joseph Johnson (2-for-3), Nash Johnson (2-for-4), Joey Matthews (1-for-3) and Will Barbour (1-for-4).
The Trojans improved to 11-7 overall, 6-2 in the Two Rivers 3A Conference.

Princeton soccer dominant
The Princeton girls soccer team shut out Neuse Charter School 9-0 on Thursday for a matching league record of 9-0. The Bulldogs improved to 11-2 overall.
Princeton did all its damage before halftime and the game was called at that point. It marked the team’s third win in as many days.
Kassandra Velasquez picked up a hat trick with four goals and three assists. Jessica Brush scored twice and had three assists and Emily Woodward, Chelsea Hawley and Jenna Woodard each found the net once.
Alexis Juarez added three assists for the Bulldogs.
Daughtry ignites in Bulldog win
Princeton’s Matt Daughtry went 3-for-4 including a grand slam and five RBI in the Bulldogs’ 18-3 baseball blowout of Neuse Charter School in six innings on Thursday.
Nick Phillips hit 2-for-3 and Tyler Beasley 2-for-5. Seven other Bulldogs players recorded hits in the game, which saw Princeton jump to an 11-2 lead through three innings.
Daughtry’s grand slam came in a 6-run sixth inning.
Neuse Charter got two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a double by Bubba Noles and single by Jarrod Sealy. Nathan Smith drove in Neuse Charter’s other run in the fifth.
Beasley went the distance for Princeton, striking out 7 while allowing five hits. Noles took the loss striking out two against 7 walks and allowing 6 hits.
Trojans take pair of wins
South Johnston built sizable cushion early on and never looked back in an 11-2 softball win over Western Harnett on Thursday.
The Trojans were most productive in a 5-run second inning and score three more in the sixth. They stockpiled 12 hits to the Eagles’ 6.
Caroline Dorman led South Johnston with a 2-for-3 plate performance, and was back by teammates Lauren Higgins (3-for-5), Krista Collins (2-for-4) and Alexis Massengill (2-for-5).
Western Harnett’s Vanessa Kokoszka and Jamin Roberts were each 2-for-4, with one of Kokoszka’s hits clearing the fence.
Dinalee Spell to the win for the Trojans and Tess Womack the loss for the Eagles.
Once South Johnston got going on offense it didn’t stop in a 12-0 softball rout of Corinth Holders in six innings on Wednesday.
The Trojans outhit the Pirates 10-2 and didn’t commit a single error in the game, which saw Corinth Holders commit eight miscues.
Higgins took the win for South Johnston and Kayla Meares the loss for the Pirates.
Leading the Trojans at the plate were Dorman (2-for-3) and Kayla Allen and Madison Byrd (2-for-4). Corinth Holders got its hits from Kalin Mitchell and Holly Price.
