Garner, West Johnston both finish 12-1-1 in soccer
Garner and West Johnston both finished with 12-1-1 marks during the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference girls soccer regular season last week, wrapping up a shared title. Garner will enter the playoffs as the league’s No. 1 seed by virtue of its 1-0-1 record against the Wildcats this season. The Trojans beat Southeast Raleigh and Rolesville both by 9-0 counts last week. Senior Bayleigh Adams had a combined five goals in the two matches.
West Johnston (19-1-2 overall) finished off its season with a 3-0 win over Clayton on Monday and a 9-0 triumph over Harnett Central.
Senior Alaina Custer scored all three West goals in the win over Clayton. Mallory Barton, Madison Covey and Kristin Power had one assist each. Hannah Stephenson worked the shutout in goal for West.
Clayton finished 9-4-1 in conference play, a half-game ahead of Knightdale for third place. The Comets (10-6-1 overall) will advance to the playoffs as well.
Garner clinches GNRC softball title
Garner clinched the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference softball championship with a 10-5 win over Harnett Central, a 5-0 win over Knightdale and a 16-0 decision over Southeast Raleigh last week.
The Trojans stood 12-1 in conference play and 17-2 overall entering their final game of the regular-season.
West Johnston edges East Wake
West Johnston topped East Wake 2-0 in softball on Monday. Megan Mills worked a two-hit shutout for West with 11 strikeouts and two walks. Rachel Willis drove in a run and Nadia Blevins doubled and scored a run.
