Johnson, Higgins lead all-state softball selections
The N.C. Softball Coaches Associations all-state teams have been announced. Two Johnston County players picked up eastern region top honors.
North Johnston senior Jamie Johnson was the player of the year for the 2A east, helping the Panthers win their 11th straight conference championship.
South Johnston senior Lauren Higgins was the 3A pitcher of the year for the east region.
North’s Kaylynn Batten and Olivia Narron joined Johnson on the 2A all-state team.
The eastern 3A finalists from South Johnston earned four all-state nods. Kayla Allen, Madison Byrd, Krista Collins and Higgins were honored with selections.
Brittany Bucklin and Heather McLean of Cleveland also earned all-state 3A honors.
The all-state teams are extensive, including dozens of players in each classification. Schools whose coaches are not members of the association typically don’t have any all-state selections.
