College Choice: UNC Pembroke High School: Garner
Parents: Cary and Sara Perkinson
Club Teams: CASL Elite 95, Chelsea Academy Development Program
Also Considered: Methodist, Greensboro College
Why Pembroke? “I wanted a school where I wasn’t a little fish in a really big pond. I like the student to teacher ratio there and they have a really good level of soccer. It all felt right.”
Major: Sports Management, Business or Marketing
Notable: Kenneth considered ending his soccer career after being admitted to N.C. State and just concentrating on being a student there. But once he received interest from and visited Pembroke, his mind was made up. “I didn’t want to go to a 1,000-student school just to get the chance to keep playing soccer,” he said. “Pembroke is a great part of the UNC system.” Garner won its first conference championship in school history this past fall with Kenneth in goal. The Trojans went 16-3-1. “Just being part of a history-making effort like that is what I’ll remember most,” Kenneth said. “When you think Garner, you think football, not soccer. Beating Southeast Raleigh to clinch the conference championship is the match I’ll never forget.” Although he was a two-year starter for the Garner soccer squad, Kenneth had his moments of football glory as well. He was the kicker for the Trojans as a senior. He was very effective with a touchback rate on kickoffs of more than 65 percent and he led the state in extra points made.
