Garner blanks Knightdale to move to 4-0
Garner shutout Knightdale 5-0 Thursday in a Greater Neuse River 4A Conference contest. The Trojans (5-2 overall, 4-0 conference) scored four runs in the third and had eight hits on the night.
Jack Elliott, who leads the Trojans with a .545 batting average, hit a inside-the-park home run for Garner. Alan Robinson got the win as Garner held the Knights to three hits.
Clayton blanks another GNRC opponent
Clayton rolled to a 9-0 dual team boys tennis win over Garner on Thursday.
At No. 1 singles, Klein Evans beat Jordan Hudson, 6-0, 6-0, while at No. 2 singles the Comets' Brooks Campbell downed Jared Ingram, 6-0, 6-1.
Naren Guha beat Garner's Joshua Johnson, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 and Christopher Riley was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over James Bonner.
Dillon Hyde (6-1, 6-0 over David Stewart) and Vance Lanier (6,2, 6-1 over Duncan Forster) earned Clayton's wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Clayton dropped just two of the 24 games played in doubles play. Evans and Campbell won 8-0 at No. 1 over Hudson and Ingram. Guha/Riley and Hyde/Lanier both took 8-1 decisions over Johnson/Forster and Bonner/Stewart, respectiively.
Knights outscore Trojans
Knightdale downed Garner 11-6 in softball on Thursday. Haleigh Joyner and Alisha Josey had two hits each for the Trojans in the loss. Garner's Samantha Armstrong, Kira Jackson and Josey all had doubles.
Clayton makes it three straight
Clayton won its third consecutive baseball game Thursday, downing East Wake 11-1 in five innings. The Comets are 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference. East Wake is 1-3 in the league.
Princeton holds off Lakewood
Tanner Flowers carried a no-hitter into the seventh during Princeton's 3-1 victory over Lakewood on April 1. Flowers struck out five, walked two and gave up a pair of hits in the complete-game victory.
Nick Phillips, Tyler Ricks, Jared Pearce, Mason Rachels and Flowers all had hits for the Bulldogs.
