Cleveland High School’s Tyler Keenan was named to the N.C. High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State team last week. Keenan, a rising junior, hit .483 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in 24 games for the Rams. He led the team in batting average, on-base percentage (.611), home runs, RBIs and walks (24). Keenan is a two-year varsity player for Cleveland and has 49 hits in 42 career games and 32 walks drawn against 13 strikeouts.
Scrimmages begin: High school football scrimmages begin across the state on Tuesday and continue through Saturday. Teams can participate in two scrimmages.
West Johnston and Smithfield-Selma will host multiple-team scrimmages on Tuesday and Cleveland will host one on Thursday evening.

Stephenson posts an international top 10: Patrick Stephenson of Four Oaks tied for seventh at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. recently. The South Johnston High rising senior who has verbally committed to East Carolina University finished at 4-over-par, 292.
The four-round tournament featured players from across the globe. The champion — Adrien Pendaries — hailed from France and players from South Africa and Thailand also finished in the top 10.
More golf: Smithfield’s Ellen Watson won the girls 16-18-year-old division of a Triangle Youth Golf Association one-day tournament at Prestonwood late last month. Grace Olmstead of Four Oaks was second in the girls 14-15 division. Clayton’s Noah Kallam tied for fourth in the boys 16-18 classification. Matthew Hayes, also of Clayton, tied for eight in the boys 14-15. Garner’s Philip Brown tied for fourth in a Carolinas Golf Association One-Day Tournament at Mill Creek Golf Club in Southern Pines.
Sprint Triathlon in Johnston: The Club at Flowers Plantation will host a spring triathlon on Sept. 20. The event includes a 300-yard swim, a 16-mile bike ride and a 5K run. The entry fee is $75 for individuals before Sept. 17 or $130 for relay groups before Sept. 17. Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Durham.
