Clayton’s girls tennis team has opened its season with matching 9-0 victories over Greater Neuse River 4A Conference rivals East Wake and Harnett Central. The wins put the Comets’ conference dual match winning streak at 80.
Carmelle Joyner, Katherine Riley, Crystal Anderson and Hannah Kellum all won in singles at love (6-0, 6-0) for Clayton against Central. Sydney Rushing and Jackie Rollins also had straight set singles wins.
SSS gets first volleyball win: Smithfield-Selma swept North Johnston 25-10, 25-11, 26-24 to earn its first volleyball win of the season on Monday. Karlie McCullers led SSS with eight kills and 12 service aces in the match. Maya Anderson-Badillo had 18 assists.
South Johnston moves to 4-0: South Johnston swept Midway in volleyball, 25-15, 25-17, 25-15, on Tuesday to move to 4-0 on the season. Emma Blackman and Lilly Allen had nine kills each in the victory. Reagan Byrd had 18 digs.

Cleveland drops Garner: Cleveland moved to 5-0 with a 25-14, 15-25, 25-13, 25-14 volleyball victory over Garner on Wednesday.
Clayton sweeps Spartans for first victory: Clayton rolled by Smithfield-Selma in volleyball for a 25-20, 25-4, 25-17 victory on Tuesday. It was the Comets’ first win in three matches this season.
North notches fourth volleyball win: North Johnston downed Goldsboro in four sets (25-17, 25015, 16-25, 25-19) on Tuesday to move to 4-1 on the season. Jada Santiago had five kills in the win.
North was swept by Smithfield-Selma in volleyball, 25-10, 25-11, 26-14 on Monday.
Princeton sweeps Fike: Princeton swept Wilson Fike in volleyball 25-13, 25-12, 25-22 on Tuesday. Taylor Carroll had seven kills for the Bulldogs, while Daisey Eklund had six kills and two blocks. The Bulldogs moved to 2-1 on the season with the win.
West Johnston tops Cleveland in tennis: West Johnston downed Cleveland in a girls dual tennis match by an 8-1 score on Tuesday. Katherine Serrell, Sabrina Fink, Jessica Reese, Veronica Mclean and Carrington Mack won in singles for the Wildcats. Freshman Sarah Rose won at No. 6 singles for the Rams.
North Johnston wins pair on pitch: North Johnston’s boys soccer team downed Princeton by a 7-1 count on Monday and Goldsboro 6-0 on Wednesday to move to 4-1 on the season.
Tyler Jackson had three goals in the win over Princeton, while Ian Walston pitched in two goals. Chase Davis and Walston also had two assists each.
Aldolfo Rosales had two goals for North in the win over Goldsboro and Walston contributed three assists.
