Stone Soup Supper raises record $34,500
The Wednesday night suppers at White Memorial typically draw up to 265 people, but 525 people showed up for this year’s gathering.
Advance soup sales, offered for the first time this year, sold out two days before the event. Diners enjoyed a medley of soups, bread and desserts for $8 for adults and $4 for children. Preliminary estimates show $34,500 was raised, making this year’s event the most successful ever.
As a fundraiser for Urban Ministries, Stone Soup enables the local nonprofit to address hunger and homelessness and to provide healthcare to those living in poverty in Wake County. With 94 cents of every dollar received going directly to client care, Urban Ministries’ donors can be sure their donations are used efficiently and effectively.
Area chefs who contributed recipes included Scott Rowe, Prestonwood Country Club; Scott Crawford, Umstead Hotel and Spa; Eric Gephardt and Rusty Nicholson, The Chef’s Academy; Chef Ben Holt, The Capital City Club; Chef Eddie Wilson, N.C. State University; Donna Lupo, White Memorial Presbyterian Church; and Chef Andrew Pettifer, Margaux.
Great Harvest Bread Co. donated the bread, U.S. Foods ingredients and supplies, and Starbucks donated warm cider. Diners grazed through a tasting room before making their choice for the evening’s meal. From staff reports
