Shaw athletics

Shaw University will hold a wide variety of sports camps in June for boys and girls in the second through eighth grades. Many of the camps will be run by Shaw coaches. The camps include both boys and girls basketball camps, a boys football camp, and golf and tennis camps for both boys and girls.

•  The girls basketball camp will run from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. June 16 through 18. Camp will include skills drills and games intended to give attendees a solid fundamental background in the game. Cost for the camp is $100.
• The boys basketball camp will run from 8 a .m. to 1:15 p.m. June 18 through 21 and include drills and games, as well. Cost for this camp is $120.
• The boys football camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16 through 19 and costs $100. The golf camp covers the same time frame, but runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The youth tennis camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. June 23 through 26.

Fully Armored Sports

Fully Armored Sports will hold sports training camps in the summer. Speed and agility training will begin June 16 and July 24. Strength club will begin June 16, and football training camp will begin July 14.

Freedom Run 5k

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 187 of Wake Forest will present the 2014 5k Freedom Run at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 21, beginning and ending at 225 East Holding Ave., Wake Forest.

Proceeds will support Military Missions in Action and the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Basketball camp

The J.D. Lewis Multi-Purpose Center will host basketball camps from June through August at 2245 Garner Road, Raleigh. The camps run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16-20, 23-27, July 28 through August 1, August 4-8, 11-15 and 18-23. Email or visit for more information.

Triangle Rowing Club

Triangle Rowing Club will host summer camp for ages 11-18 from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monday, June 16, to Friday, June 20, at Lake Wheeler Park in Raleigh. Another session will be from Monday, July 7, to Friday, July 11. The last session will be from Monday, Aug. 4, to Friday, Aug. 8. Each session costs $180. For details or registration, email or go to
