Wake Forest-Rolesville students win FFA title
A team of Wake Forest-Rolesville High students was named state champions at the FFA State competitions. They finished first place in the North Carolina FFA Senior Division Horse Evaluation Competition in Williamston.
The team members were Kendall Wolford, Sara Bickers, Taylor Fox and Ginsey Temple. Wolford was the highest scoring individual in the competition. The team will compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in late October.
The FFA Horse Evaluation CDE is a competitive activity that tests the student’s ability to select and evaluate horses and their riders. The WFRHS students competed against more than 50 teams from across North Carolina.
The school’s Junior Division team placed sixth in the competition. They competed against 40 other teams. The team members were Bianca Bassnight, Lessie Hall, Mariah Jeter and Moriah Van Voorhis.
The club advisers are Michael Johnson and Brett Capps.
Carroll Middle to hold STEM Expo
A STEM Expo is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Carroll Middle School in Raleigh. The expo will inform the community about the science, technology, engineering and mathematics program and highlight STEM projects by students. The PTA will offer dinner on the lawn with Q Shack barbecue beginning at 5 p.m. Dinner and the expo are free. For more information, call 919-881-1370.
Early College students earn honors
Wake N.C. State University STEM Early College High students Hamza Baloch, Vincent Bland, Brian Cambra and Trey Cornish placed second in North Carolina for their eCYBERMISSION project. Their topic involved the use of solar panels as an alternative energy source for automobile transportation.
In the web-based science, technology, engineering and mathematics competition, teams propose a solution to a real problem in the community and compete for regional and national awards.
