‘My Sky’
The “My Sky” contest invited photographers to submit entries of downtown Raleigh’s skyline. Categories included daytime and nighttime photos. The first place winners were Jordan Peterson for the day photo and Geoff Brown with Carolyn Scott Photography for the night photo. Summers joins Wake Orthopaedics
Dr. Alan Summers has joined the Wake Orthopaedics team. Originally from Del Mar, Calif., he completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University and went on to serve as a research assistant at the University of California-San Diego. He attended medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Summers has expertise in arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow and ankle.
Liz Johnson to serve as advocate
Liz Johnson has been selected to serve as the new advocacy chair of the Raleigh-Durham affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Johnson is currently mayor pro tem for the town of Morrisville, serving her fourth consecutive four-year term. She serves on a number of local and statewide committees.
Parade of Homes awards
Chesapeake Homes and Homes by Dickerson recently won Parade of Homes awards in Traditions at Wake Forest. This year’s 49th Parade of Homes event featured more than 250 new homes throughout the Triangle. Chesapeake Homes won Silver for The Spring Haven floorplan. Homes by Dickerson won Gold and a Perfect Score award for the St. James II floorplan.
Book club receives grant
The Lucy Daniels Center’s Lucy’s Book Club program has received a $24,000 grant from the Golden Corral Charitable Fund of Triangle Community Foundation. The grant will allow the club to double the number of centers served in Wake County to 12.
Medal of Arts
George Holt, N.C. Museum of Art’s director of performing arts and film, has been selected to receive a 2014 Raleigh Medal of Arts by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission. The medal is awarded for extraordinary lifetime achievement in the practice or support of local arts.
Booster club fundraiser
Wakefield High School students and families participated in a Dodge Booster Club Fundraiser Sept. 12, raising $2,640. During the fundraier, the Dodge brand contributed $20 for each test drive in a new 2014 Dodge Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan or Dart. Dodge has helped raise over $5 million for local schools with test drive programs since 1993.
