Art, history of Burgundy
Learn about the history, landscape and art of the French province of Burgundy during an Armchair Travel Series lecture at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the N.C. Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh. The cost is $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers, with an additional $15 French-inspired box lunch available. A reception for I Did It My Way, an exhibit by The Triangle Art Quilters, will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Crafts Center at N.C. State University, 210 Jensen Drive, Raleigh. The exhibit will feature art quilts combining traditional quilting techniques with themed imagery and ideas.
A shag class and beach party will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at A Step to Gold International Ballroom, 6278 Glenwood Ave., Suite 200, Raleigh. Learn basic and intermediate shag moves from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., followed by a beach party from 8:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. The cost of both events is $20, and the party costs $15.
Outdoor films at NCMA
The N.C. Museum of Art will screen outdoor films through September at Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Theater, 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh.

Family art workshop
