Town Hall meeting
Raleigh City Council Member Wayne Maiorano of District A will host the last in a series of three town hall meetings in the district from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Anne Gordon Center for Active Adults, 1901 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh. Residents are invited to attend the town hall meeting to discuss issues of importance to both District A and the city overall. District A covers north-central Raleigh. Topics for Wednesday’s town hall meeting include transportation improvement projects in District A, an overview of the Six Forks Road Corridor Study, Capital Area Transit service, and a review of traffic-calming projects in District A.
History Corner at N.C. Museum of History
From 10 to 11 a.m. History Corner will give children ages 6-9 the chance to investigate the photo exhibit “Stagville: Black & White.” Ages 6-9 with adult. Yates by Night
From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., join a park naturalist for an evening hike to enjoy the sights and sounds of early summer at Historic Yates Mill County Park while also getting exercise in the great outdoors. Learn tips for observing wildlife and find out ways to identify the sounds made by birds, amphibians and insects as the sun goes down. This program is for ages 8 and up. Wine tasting fundraiser
The North Wake chapter of the American Wine Society, Wine 101 of Wake Forest and Raleigh, Fine Wine Trading Company and other organizations and enthusiasts will hold the “Wine to Water” wine tasting and fundraiser June 6 to 8. The event will take place at Wine 101, 3325 Rogers Road, Wake Forest from 5 to 7 p.m. June 6, 3 to 5 p.m. June 7, and 2 to 5 p.m. June 8. Cost is $10 per event. Join Tar River Land Conservancy from 9 to 11 a.m. for a tour of Cascine Plantation, just south of Louisburg. Included will be a hike along Cedar Creek to the old grist mill. The mill and plantation buildings are antebellum, historic treasures located near Louisburg in Franklin County. Learn about scenic Cedar Creek, the ongoing renovation of the millworks, and the history of the plantation. Bring snacks and water for your walk, and a picnic lunch to enjoy on large, flat rocks at the creek, or in a shaded spot near the mill. Wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing.
