Paint Your HeART Out
Sertoma Arts Center will hold its annual Paint Your HeART Out fundraiser to support arts and scholarship programs from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. Participants of all ages will create a Valentine’s-inspired masterpiece on canvas using paint and other provided materials. The works of art will be displayed in the center, at 1400 W. Art, photo contest at Yates Mill
Historic Yates Mill County Park is accepting artwork for the 7th annual Mill As Muse exhibit. Contest themes will focus on Yates Mill, park flora and fauna and people doing park activities. Threads of Grace open house
Threads of Grace will hold an open house from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at The Story Tellers Bookstore, 158 S. White St., Wake Forest. Threads of Grace is a nonprofit group of women dedicated to empowering women to help themselves and others in need through the sale of handmade goods. The group also offers workshops in weaving, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Book release party
A pre-release book party of “Ink in the Wheels: Stories to Make Love Roll” by S. Barton and Megan M. Cutter is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the IMAX Complex at Marbles Kids Museum, 201 E. Hargett St., Raleigh. The book describes the journey of an inter-ability married couple as they explore the courage and perseverance to thrive in a relationship. The Art of the Necklace 2
An opening reception for The Art of the Necklace 2, a portrait photography and jewelry exhibition, is set for 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Third Place coffeehouse, 1811 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.
The Art of the Necklace 2 features portrait photographs by Carl Tyer of models wearing mixed media character necklaces made by Rock Kershaw.

Shades of Blue at Sunflower Gallery
The exhibit Shades of Blue, with guest artists Cynthia Aldrich and Barbara Rohde, will open during Art After Hours on Feb. 8 at Sunflower Studio & Gallery, 214 E. Jones St., Wake Forest. Aldrich is a potter from Durham who is displaying her functional pottery featuring blue and cream glazes decorated with flowing floral designs in blue. Rohde paints what she sees and feels, using brilliant expressive colors in a realistic style.
Painting with natural colors, primitive paints
A program to explore where colors come from and what we can create from them is set for 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 9. Participants will use natural pigments and other materials to create a cave-style painting. For all ages; most appropriate for ages 8 and older. Cost is $4 per person. To register, call 919-856-6675.
‘Jack Tales: Appalachian Adventures’
“Jack Tales: Appalachian Adventures,” with Storytellers to Go! of the Raleigh Little Theatre, is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the N.C. Museum of History, 5 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. Enjoy stories about Jack as he meets the Northwest Wind, plays cat and mouse and outwits dangerous robbers.
Concert to benefit Hope for Haiti
Peak City Blues Project will headline a fundraiser for The Midwife Project of the Hope for Haiti Foundation at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at The Pour House, 224 S. Blount St., Raleigh. Doors open at 7. Cost is $10 at the door. The event will include a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.
Random Acts of Kindness Day
Artistic Abandon is seeking participants for a Day for Random Acts of Kindness, starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, outside the North Hills Starbucks, 4421 Six Forks Road, Suite 116, Raleigh.
Artistic Abandon owners Emily and Sebastian Page and realtor Steve Gunter will contribute money and ask attendees to contribute $10 each. After “spreading joy” at North Hills, participants will go to the southeast side of Raleigh, where they will distribute grocery store gift cards to low-income residents.
