The Northern Wake Optimist Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the IHOP, 6707 Knightdale Blvd., Knightdale. The club will be working to complete a room makeover for a 3-year-old through the Childhood Cancer Campaign.

BPW panelist of speakers
The Business and Professional Women of Raleigh will present a panel of speakers on the community transformational effects of nonprofits at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Brier Creek Country Club, 9400 Club Hill Drive, Raleigh. Optimist Club oratorical contest
Northern Wake Optimist Club is holding an oratorical contest on the topic “Why My Voice is Important.” Applications and typed oration must be received by Sunday, March 31. The speech must be 4-5 minutes long. The contest is set for Sunday, April 7.
The contest is open to high school students 19 and younger as of Dec. 31, 2012. For the official rules and to apply, go to www.optimist.org and search “Oratorical Contest.”
Winners will be invited to give their oration at the club’s Tuesday, April 23 meeting. At the district level, $5,000 in scholarships will be given to the top three winners.
