The Triangle Tarheels fifth-grade girls won the Youth Basketball of America National Championship July 8-14 in Orlando, Fla. The team defeated the Atlanta Triple Threat All Stars 48-39, increasing the week’s record to 5-0.
Kendall Moore was named tournament most valuable player. Jada Peebles and Ciara Moore were named to the All-Tournament team, and Demi Washington received the tournament hustle award.
Other girls on the team are Alana Brown, Angelica Sevilla, Arianna Hopkins, Kendal Moore, Jade Allen, Jada Miller, Jordan Moore, Naomi Lockamy and Tori Hansen. They were coached by Ahmad Smalls and Maurice Hopkins.
The sixth-grade team placed second with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss. Alissa Smalls and Bernadette Cook were named to the All-Tournament team, and Kayla Surles received the hustle award.

Raleigh youth athletics registrations
Raleigh Parks and Recreation has announced the following registration dates:
Youth Tackle Football registration for ages 7-13 as of July 31 is open until Friday, July 27. Cost is $48 for city residents and $60 for nonresidents. All participants must provide proof of age and have insurance.
Youth Fall Cheerleading registration for ages 7-13 as of July 31 is open until Friday, July 27. The squads will be organized with the youth football teams in the city of Raleigh league. Cost is $48 for city residents and $60 for nonresidents.

Third annual Five-O Memorial Bicycle Ride
The third annual Five-O Memorial rides are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25, starting at Trek Raleigh, 10911 Raven Ridge Road, Raleigh. The event will include 50K and 100K rides along open roads in North Raleigh with rest stops and support vehicles along the route. Lunch will be provided.

AHCF N.C. 5K & Walk
The third annual Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Foundation’s N.C. 5K & Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Rolesville Ballfield, 21 Redford Place Drive, Rolesville. The event includes a 5K and a 1.5 mile walk. Registration the day of the event begins at 8:30 for the 5K and 10 a.m. for the 1.5 mile walk. Registration fees are as follows: 5K run, $20 before Aug. 22 and $25 after; 1.5-mile walk, $20 before Aug. 22, $25 after. No registration fee for children 11 and younger.
