Basketball season kicked off Monday. Here’s what Cap Eight coaches look forward to in the season ahead.
Last season’s overall record is in parentheses.
Broughton (20-8): The Caps return four starters from a team that was upset in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A tournament. Potential standouts include seniors Devonte Graham (14.8 points per game), James Hemphill (11 ppg), Chase Johnston and Chris Brickhouse, and junior Cameron Gottfried.
Never miss a local story.
Enloe (8-16): Coach Tommy Moore returns three starters from last year’s Enloe team and looks for production from seniors Dominique Lee and Shawn McGee, juniors Pervis Louder and Jaymes Patterson, and sophomore Antonio Watson.

Leesville (10-13): New coach Russ Frazier takes over for the Pride after moving from Northwood High School in Pittsboro where he led the team to the NCHSAA 2-A state finals in 2009 and 2011 and earned Carolina 12 Coach of the Year honors for the past two seasons.
Millbrook (24-7): The Wildcats will be without standouts Shi’Chee Moore and Karon Blount, who graduated after Millbrook’s NCHSAA 4A sectional finals loss last season.
Sanderson (11-17): Coach Mike Shaw returns four starters and looks for junior forward Parker Fennema, a two-year All-Conference selection, to be a big player for the Spartans.
Wakefield (18-7): Two starters return for coach Dexter Cooley. All-conference selection Logan Evans, R.J. Adderley, Jecori Earl and Rayquan Hall are expected to be standouts for the Wolverines.
Wakefield will also look for contribution from Nash Central transfer Harvey Griffin.

Broughton (20-8): The Caps return their top three starters: sisters Kaila and Nadine Ealey, who averaged 10.1 and 9.2 points, respectively, and Megan Sullivan, who averaged 9.5. Coach Brad McCorkle will be in his first season leading the Caps after coaching the St. David’s junior varsity team in recent years.
Enloe (13-12): Coach Pina Baker-Hunt returns two starters from last season and looks for junior Candice Jones, who grabbed 9.7 rebounds per game and added 6.5 points, to be a standout for the Eagles.
