Sanderson coach Glenn Frazier had been playing the beginning of this season shorthanded. Friday night, the Spartans had all their pieces in place, and ran past Garner 66-46 at the Trojan Coliseum.
“I got some pieces to my team back. We’ve gone this whole preseason, and the first (week) of the season without two of three vital parts of the team, so I’m starting to get those pieces back slowly but surely,” Frazier said. “We really came out with a lot more energy tonight than what we’ve played with the last couple of games.”
The trio of Bria Gibson (20 pts), Jessica Fife (17 pts), and Derricka Lewis (12 pts) helped pace the Spartans (2-1), with Fife connecting on five 3-pointers.
“This was totally our breakout game,” Fife said. “This will definitely give us a boost.”
Garner (0-4) kept it close through three quarters, getting the score to 35-31 at one point, but a strong Sanderson fourth quarter held the Trojans at bay.
The teams will face off again Friday when Garner travels to Sanderson.
