PurpleStride 5K Race
The third annual PurpleStride 5K Walk/Race is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, at the Centennial Campus at N.C. State University, 1017 Main Campus Drive, Raleigh. Walk or run a 5K course while enjoying music, snacks, kids’ activities and an awards ceremony, all while raising awareness of pancreatic cancer. Youth soccer classes
Eastgate Park is offering monthly soccer classes for children ages 5-7 and 8-10 in March and April.
The four-week sessions kick off on the first Saturday of each month with the weekly one-hour classes beginning at 11 a.m. for 8-10 year olds and noon for 5-7 year olds.
Programs are $43 per month and children must be pre-registered.

Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation golf tournament
The Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation will host a golf tournament on Monday, March 25, at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh.
All proceeds from the four-person superball tournament will benefit the Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation.
The event will open at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
The cost for individual players is $100; foursomes are $400, and corporate sponsorships begin at $100. All donations are tax deductible.
The tournament has sold out and wait-listed in each of its three previous years, so early registration is encouraged.

Scholarships to summer basketball camp
Wake Electric is accepting applications from middle school students for scholarships to summer basketball camps on two of the state’s largest campuses.
Girls can apply to attend N.C. State’s Kellie Harper Basketball Academy, which runs Aug. 1-4, and boys to attend North Carolina’s Roy Williams Basketball Camp, which runs June 15-19.
Scholarship applications will be accepted through Friday, March 29.
Students entering sixth, seventh and eighth grade are eligible to apply. Applicants sponsored by Wake Electric must live in Wake, Durham, Johnston, Vance, Granville, Nash or Franklin counties but do not have to live in households served by Wake Electric in order to win.
Applications will be judged on academics, extracurricular activities and an essay.

5K at Hasentree

Run for our Heroes
The Run For Our Heroes 5k Run/Walk is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, on Nash Square at the 200 block of W. Hargett St., Raleigh. This event is held to honor the eight Raleigh police officers who have died in the line of duty. A post-race social will be held at Napper Tandy’s with free food for all race participants.
