Sheldon Lloyd and Orlene Campbell Sutton of Raleigh are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, June 24. At the time of their marriage, during World War II, Sheldon was serving in the United States Navy as a plane commander. At the mere age of 23 years old, he piloted a B24 bomber and commanded a crew of eleven men. Orlene's contribution to the "war effort" was working for John Deere, hand printing ledgers of instructions for tool and die use in the manufacture of airplane parts.
They were married June 24, 1944 at La Jolla, California.
