The Smithfield Town Council held a public hearing last week to close out a $50,000 grant that benefited East Smithfield. The council also honored a former mayor, promoted and swore in police officers and approved two new stop signs.
The Johnston County Visitors Bureau recently spent $50,000 on a comprehensive plan to guide the development of parks and recreation services and facilities in the county. Last week, the agency asked the Johnston County Commissioners to put the master plan into action.
Johnston County Commissioners will take two more years to pick a long-term plan to fund trash and recycling services. The price of the window decals required to use convenience sites will stay at $65 until next summer, when they will jump to $100.
Each year, thousands of Johnston County parents ask to transfer their student to another school. And for the most part, the district says, “Yes.” For the past three years, Johnston County schools has OK’d 91 percent of the more than 8,200 total transfer requests, according to reassignment data.
