Free energy audits
The Weatherization division of Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action offers free energy audits to eligible residents in Johnston, Lee and Harnett counties. The house must have a working HVAC system to be eligible.
Energy audits can help identify leaks and sealing issues in the home, which can then be fixed to decrease utility bills.

Bridges close for replacement
The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed two Johnston County bridges for replacement.
The 60-year-old bridge on Juniper Church Road over Hannah Creek east of Benson is structurally deficient, which means it is safe but deteriorating. A detour sends drivers onto Tettersville, Hockaday, Dodd-McLamb and Juniper roads to get back to Juniper Church Road.
The bridge over East Mingo Swamp on Benson-Hardee Road near Benson is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete, meaning it was built to design standards no longer used. As a detour, drivers can use Mingo Road, N.C. 27 and Denning Road.
The DOT expects work on both projects to take no more than 120 days.
The projects are part of a $10.4 million contract awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. to replace a dozen Johnston County bridges by late 2015.

A story in Wednesday’s Herald should have stated that the Me Fine Foundation was founded in 2004, not 2009. Also, the foundation’s phone number is 919-202-0086.
