The Greater Smithfield-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce presented the following awards at its 46th annual meeting Jan. 25.
Citizen of the Year – Rep. Leo Daughtry of Smithfield, who will be completing a 28-year career in the N.C. General Assembly in 2016
Distinguished Citizens, for longtime service to the community – Mike Parrish of Selma, an owner of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, and Kim Mitchell McCullers, owner of Mitchell Temporary Services in Smithfield.
Chamber Athena Award, for support of women in business and the professions – Doris Huebner, owner and operator of several McDonald’s restaurants in Johnston County.

Jimmy Creech Small Business Persons of the Year – Daniel and Vickie Evans, owners Evans Jewelers, who recently renovated a building in downtown Smithfield for their store. Mr. Evans is a former mayor of Smithfield.
Life Membership – Phil Taylor, who recently retired after a 32-year career in financial services, most recently with Raymond James.
Past Chair’s Plaque – Crystal Roberts, who served as chairwoman of the chamber board of directors in 2015.
The chamber also recognized its ambassadors, Chamber Champion sponsors and board of directors.
