Balloons. Certificates. Awards. Tents with tons of food.
It all came together when the Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County held its year-end recognition program. The celebration drew more than 150 people, including club members, parents, staff, community leaders and volunteers.
Among those recognized were Linda Rivera, who received the Leadership Award for establishing the club’s Art Club and for taking part in the Governor’s Page Program in Raleigh; and James Daniels, who received the Excellence Award as the local club’s Youth of the Year. He was also a state finalist for Youth of the Year, finishing in the top five in that competition.
The club thanked the Smithfield-Selma High School students who came to the club weekly during the school year to tutor club members.
The club also thanked its volunteers and its donors, whose financial support pays for such things as educational trips to museums, tours of college campuses and summer camp.
