The Writers Group, a new group for writers of all genres, will hold its first meetings next month. The group will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6. Comedy in Clayton
Girl on Girl Comedy & Revue is coming to Clayton. The show, which features female, gay and lesbian performers, will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, 8928 U.S. 70 Business. Dinner theater
“The Haunting,” a mystery dinner theater, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. Comedy in Smithfield
The Neuse Little Theatre will present the comedy “Auntie Mame” at 8 p.m. Sept. 19-20, 3 p.m. Sept. 21 and 8 p.m. Sept. 26-27 at The Hut at the corner of Front and Market streets in downtown Smithfield. Mame Dennis, a socialite in 1920s New York City, must suddenly care for her nephew, 10-year-old orphan Patrick. She teaches him free living and free thinking while trying to keep him from the clutches of the uptight world around him. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. Art class for children
Doodlebugs, a weekly art class for children ages 18 months to 4 years, has resumed at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. In sessions at 10 a.m. Friday, children experiment with dough, paper, watercolors, glue and more. For Smithfield residents, the cost is $5 per session or $19 for four sessions. Brewing Up Some Art
The second annual Brewing Up Some Art is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Deep River Brewing Co., 700 W. Main St., Clayton. Local artists will display their works, Wade Hill will perform, and the afternoon will feature activities for children and adults.

Johnston Community College has announced the lineup for its 25th anniversary concert series.
An Evening with Molly Ringwald – 7 p.m. Sept. 19. The stage and screen actress will present an evening of jazz vocals. Tickets are $26 in advance and $27.50 at the door.
The Annie Moses Band, with The Hall Sisters – 7 p.m. Oct. 11. The Annie Moses Band fuses Americana, folk rock and jazz. The Hall Sisters have appeared on JCC’s Country Music Showcase. Tickets are $23.50 in advance and $25 at the door.
