Acting class for teens
Clayton Youth Theater will offer an acting class this fall for students in grades 6-12. From Oct. 6 through Nov. 17, “Beginning Acting & Script Analysis” will meet Mondays at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. The cost is $150. 2015 exhibits seek artists
Clayton Visual Arts Inc. invites artists to apply for a month-long exhibition in 2015. The exhibit season at The Clayton Center begins in February.

Paintings, photographs, graphics, printmaking, mixed media, collage, fiber arts – any two-dimensional, hanging art – will hang in the gallery.
The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Oct. 31; the application fee is $10.
Interested artists should apply by sending a resume, a portfolio of four to six images and the application fee to Clayton Visual Arts, Exhibits Committee, P.O. Box 698, Clayton, N.C. 27528.
Clayton Piano Festival
The fourth annual Clayton Piano Festival will take place Sept. 29-Oct. 10 at The Clayton Center in downtown Clayton, with additional workshops held at area schools.

Sept. 29-Oct. 3 – Educational outreach performances at local elementary schools.
Oct. 4 – “Movie Tunes: Iconic Classical Music from the Movies,” with pianist Azamat Sydykov, 7 p.m. at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St. Tickets are $20
Oct. 5 – “Sanctuary: The Inspiration of the Church on Western music,” with pianist Jonathan Levin, 3 p.m. at The Clayton Center. Tickets are $12 and $8.
Oct. 7 – “In Her Shoes: A Celebration of Women Composers,” with pianist Julia Mortyakova, 7 p.m. at the Wagner House, 121 E. Main St., Clayton. Tickets are $20.
Oct. 8-10 – Young Artist Seminar, classes and events for local piano students. Location and schedule to be determined.
Oct. 10 – “From Brooklyn to Havana: Classical Music with a Popular Twist,” with pianist Milton Laufer, 7 p.m. at The Clayton Center. Tickets are $12 and $8.

The Writers Group, a new group for writers of all genres, will hold its first meetings next month. The group will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6. Here are the remaining shows in the 25th anniversary concert series at Johnston Community College.
The Annie Moses Band, with The Hall Sisters – 7 p.m. Oct. 11. The Annie Moses Band fuses Americana, folk rock and jazz. The Hall Sisters have appeared on JCC’s Country Music Showcase. Tickets are $23.50 in advance and $25 at the door.
Pianist Emile Pandolfi with vocalist Dana Russell – 7 p.m. Jan. 23. The two will perform popular standards and Broadway hits. Tickets are $23.50 in advance and $25 at the door.
Charlotte’s Web – 1 p.m. March 7. Theatreworks USA will present the popular children’s story. Tickets are $13.50 in advance and $15 at the door.

Comedy in Clayton
Girl on Girl Comedy & Revue is coming to Clayton. The show, which features female, gay and lesbian performers, will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, 8928 U.S. 70 Business. The lineup includes Christy Eidson, Mimi Benfield, Amy Hunt, Michelle Maclay, Blayr Nias and Gretchen McNeeley.
