Talent show in Benson
“Benson’s Got Talent” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30-31 in the W.J. Barefoot Auditorium, 303 E. Church St., Benson. On Friday, 25 acts will compete, with the top 12 advancing to the finals on Saturday. Doors open at 6:40 p.m. Pre-show entertainment starts at 7. The Johnston County Arts Council is seeking artists for the sixth annual Art and Food Festival on Thursday, March 19. The exhibit is open to North Carolina painters and photographers ages 18 and older. This year’s prizes are $350 for Best of Show and then $200 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place in each category. The Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center will offer pottery classes this winter.
Starting Jan. 29, wheel throwing will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through March 5. A daytime class will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays from April 21 through May 26. This class will introduce students to the pottery wheel. The cost is $100 for Smithfield residents and $125 for nonresidents. A 25-pound bag of clay is $20.

Artwork by students and Clayton Woman’s Club members is on display through Feb. 2 at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. The display is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Admission is free.

‘Blithe Spirit’ at NLT
The Neuse Little Theatre will present the Noel Coward comedy “Blithe Spirit” in February. Show times are 8 p.m. Feb. 20-21, 3 p.m. Feb. 22 and 8 p.m. Feb. 27-28 in the Hut on Front Street in downtown Smithfield.
Art class for children
Doodlebugs, a weekly art class for children ages 18 months to 4 years, has resumed at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. In sessions at 10 a.m. Friday, children experiment with dough, paper, watercolors, glue and more. For Smithfield residents, the cost is $5 per session or $19 for four sessions.
