Pottery class in Smithfield
A handbuilding class will begin Aug. 27 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Diary Road, Smithifeld. The class will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 1. The cost is $100 for Smithfield residents and $125 for nonresidents. Also, students must purchase a 20-pound bag of clay. Art on display
Photos by Frank Dziepak of Clayton and Mary Doherty of Raleigh are on display this month at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. The exhibit runs until Sept 3. Admission is free. The Clayton Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
JCC Concert Series

Call for artists
Clayton Visual Arts is seeking artists to enter the 15th Art Faire competition.
Prizes are the $750 Margaret Ritchie Award of Excellence in fine art, the $750 Award of Excellence in photography, three Judge’s Choice awards of $100 each and the Sunnie Chance People’s Choice award of $100.
Entries are due by Wednesday, Aug. 28. The entry fee is $35.
