Music in Selma
The next Country Tonight show is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Ice House Theatre, 112 N. Webb St., Selma. Admission is $12. Doors open at 7 p.m. For reservations, call 919-943-1182.
Paintings on display
Works by Maria Baluis and Lin Frye are on display this month at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
Baluis, who paints in oil, put painting aside for motherhood several years ago. But recently, she was inspired by the Daily Painting Movement and began painting small scenes she could finish in a day or so. Baluis has since moved to larger canvases and to experimenting “en plein air.”
Frye, an ethnobotanist who retired recently from Johnston Community College, works predominantly in watercolor because she likes its spontaneity. She was the People’s Choice award winner at the 2012 Clayton Art Faire.
