A call for artists
The Johnston County Arts Council is calling on adult artists to enter the fifth annual Johnston County Art and Food Festival. Artists may download the prospectus at jcartscouncil.org. Click on Events Calendar, then Painting and Photography. In each category, the show will pay $200 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third. The Best of Show winner will receive $350. Auditions in Smithfield
Auditions for “Dracula Bites,” a comedy, are scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 6-7 at The Hut on Front Street in downtown Smithfield. The Neuse Little Theatre production has roles for four men and four women.
Talent show auditions
Auditions for “Benson’s Got Talent” are scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 11 and 4 p.m. Jan. 12 at the W.J. Barefoot Auditorium on East Church Street in Benson. The Benson Foundation for the Arts will choose 30 performers for the talent competition. Fifteen of those will compete at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. The other 15 will compete at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. Five winners will advance from each night. They will compete from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. To audition, call 919-720-8298.
‘Pour It and Paint’
The next “Pour It and Paint” is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. Bring a bottle of wine and paint in a relaxing setting. The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department provides the paint and canvas. The cost is $35, and the deadline to register is Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Pottery for teens
The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department will offer a pottery class for teens ages 13-17. Starting Jan. 16, the class will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks. Students will make bowls, cups and plates on the potter’s wheel.
The cost is $65 for Clayton residents and $80 for nonresidents. For more information, call 919-553-1550.

After-School Art – The six-week class, for ages 5-7, will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 21. The class will offer lessons in color mixing, shapes and design. The cost is $45 for Clayton residents and $60 for nonresidents.

Adult Drawing – The six-week class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 21. Students will learn the fundamentals of composition, shading, shapes, lines and perspective using a variety of drawing media. The cost is $45 for Clayton residents and $60 for nonresidents.
Adult Painting – The six-week class will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays starting Jan. 23. Students will learn about color theory, perspective and composition while painting in acrylics and watercolor. The cost is $45 for Clayton residents and $60 for nonresidents.
