Music at JCC

‘The Fantasticks’ at JCC
Johnston Community College will present “The Fantasticks” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium, 245 College Road, Smithfield. The musical is a romantic comedy about a boy, a girl, their meddling and the wall that divides them. Tickets in advance are $16 for adults and $12.50 for seniors, students and military. The Clayton Youth Theater will present the romantic comedy “Almost, Maine” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27-28 and March 1 at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. For tickets, which are $10 for adults and $5 for students, visit theclaytoncenter.com or call 919-553-1737.
On opening night, enjoy dinner at the Wagner House and then walk across the street to The Clayton Center to see the show. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for students. Art for kids
Doodlebugs, a weekly art class for kids and their parents, meets from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Fridays at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road. Children 18 months to 3 years experiment with dough, pudding gelatin, crayons, watercolors and more. For Smithfield residents, the cost is $5 per session or $19 for four sessions. For nonresidents, it’s $7 per session or $27 for four sessions. Register two days in advance by class 919-934-2148.
Paintings, photos on display in Clayton
Works by painter Elizabeth de Sherbinin of Raleigh and photographer Chris Rodier of Clayton are on display this month at the Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. The free exhibit runs until March 3. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Art and Food Festival
The fifth annual Art and Food Festival Gala is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. The evening will offer sample dishes from Johnston County restaurants, a silent auction and the chance to purchase works by Johnston artists. The following will perform: pianist Earl Worley Jr., violinist Molly Olah and singer-guitarist Bruce Naegelen.
