Portrait drawing

A class in drawing portraits will begin Wednesday, April 9, at the Clayton Community Center, 715 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. Designed for both beginners and advanced artists, the class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday for six weeks. The class is for people 15 and older. Book talk at JCC

Anthony and Louise Darden will talk about their book, “Freedom From Addiction: Freedom From Sin,” from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in the Learning Resource Center at Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield. Anthony Darden, a JCC graduate, is pastor of Heaven’s Outreach Embassy Ministries. The book is about his journey from hopelessness and addiction. Admission is free.

Johnston Community College will host “Sing-a-long Grease” at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 29, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium on the Smithfield campus, 245 College Road. Jazz brunch in Clayton

A jazz brunch is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at American Legion Post 71, 1300 Old U.S. 70 West, Clayton. The jazz ensemble from N.C. Central University will perform. Art on display

Works by acrylic artist Michael Morrison and photographer Katie Probst are on display this month at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

Author Bonnie Vause, a teacher in the Johnston County schools, is republishing her first novel, “Fast Escape,” the first book in The Davenport Saga. “Fast Escape” is a psychological thriller with a Southern flair.
