Music for lunch
The next Music for the Lunch Bunch concert is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at 12:15 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield. Julie Stewart and her vocal students will perform. Admission is free, with donations accepted.
Stewart is owner of Kindermusik of Clayton and Voice of Clayton. She is a graduate of Kent State University, where she earned a degree in gifted and elementary education and a minor in vocal performance. Kindermusik International has named her a Maestro Educator five times.

Auditions in Smithfield
Auditions for “Auntie Mame,” a Neuse Little Theatre production, are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. July 28-29 at The Hut on Front Street in downtown Smithfield. The show has roles for 25 men, 12 women and three boys. Show dates are Sept. 19-21 and Sept. 26-27.
The Johnston County Arts Council is accepting grant applications.
The grant program is open to nonprofits that promote and develop cultural-arts programming in Johnston County. Projects must take place between July 1 of this year and May 30, 2015. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Aug. 14.

A grant-writing workshop is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce office, 1115 Industrial Park, Smithfield.

‘Aida’ in Clayton
Clayton Youth Theater will present Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida” at 7:30 p.m. July 25-26, July 31 and Aug. 1-2 at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. “Aida” tells the story of an enslaved Nubian princess who finds her heart entangled with Radames, an Egyptian soldier who is betrothed to the pharaoh’s daughter. As their forbidden love blossoms, Aida is forced to weigh her heart against the responsibility she faces as leader of her people. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students 18 and younger. Music on Town Square

All concerts are from 7 to 9 p.m. on the Town Square at 110 W. Main St. Admission is free; concessions are available.
Pottery for teens
A hand-building class for teens will begin July 10 the Clayton Community Center, 715 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. The class will meet from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks. The cost is $65 for Clayton residents and $80 for nonresidents. For more information, call 919-553-1550.
