Photos on display at Clayton library
“God’s Kenya,” a photo exhibit by Deborah Coates, is on display this month at Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library, 100 S. Church St., Clayton.
Coates took the photos during a mission trip to Kenya with Hocutt Baptist Church in Clayton and Bay Leaf Baptist Church in North Raleigh.
Watercolors on display
Watercolors by art students of Jim Brown are on display throughout this month at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E. Market St., Smithfield.
The following have works on display: Carolyn Allen, Joanne Dunn, Carolyn Faison, Sally Heiderman, Janet Lampe, Tammy Langston, Ann Ragland, Pat Tabler, Betty Jo Watkins and Betsy Williams.
Separately, an art collection donated to the library by the county’s Center for the Academically and Intellectually Gifted has been relocated to a more visible and permanent location in the library’s main foyer.
The collection includes works by the following: local artists Dorothy Hooks, Frank Creech and Susan Avera Booker; Jim Davis of “Garfield” fame; Marcus Hamilton and Ron Ferdinand, who pen “Dennis the Menace”; and Hilary Price, whose “Rhymes With Orange” comic strip appears in the News & Observer.
‘Welcome to Mitford’ at Neuse Little Theatre
The Neuse Little Theatre will present the comedy drama “Welcome to Mitford” at The Hut, 104 S. Front St., Smithfield. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. May 31, 8 p.m. June 1, 3 p.m. June 2 and 8 p.m. June 7-8.

The following events are coming up at Melody’s Coffeehouse, 117 N. Third St., Smithfield:
Saturday, May 25 – Greg Elder, author of “Gamblers Fight Back: A Professional Gambler’s Journey of How to Survive and Thrive in the Casino,” will sign copies of his book from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Friday, May 31 – Ceil and Dan Duo will perform popular folk music from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Open Mic Night – 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
Art by Carolyn Howard of Clayton is on display throughout the month.

Studio 5 – Sunday, June 9. Tickets will be available only from students.
The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield welcomes new members to its evening book club.
Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. Club members suggest the titles to read, and the library lends copies of each month’s selection to the members.
