Johnston Health is accepting applications for Camp Courage, a bereavement camp for children ages 6 to 13. The free camp is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 13 at Camp Mary Atkinson near Selma. Activities include music, games and art. The staff is made up of nurses, chaplains, social workers and bereavement counselors, all of whom have been trained to work with children and teens. The camp is for any child who has experienced the death of a loved one, such as a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. Johnston Health will offer its Safe Sitter course from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 16-17, July 14-15 and Aug. 11-12 at the Johnston Medical Mall, 514 N. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield. The two-day class teaches boys and girls ages 11-13 how to handle emergencies when caring for young children.
