On August 30, 2014, Margie Creech Clontz, 90, of Cornelius, gracefully went to be with her Heavenly Father and loved ones who have passed on before her. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends in Myrtle Beach, SC on the evening before her death.
Born August 29, 1924, in Johnston County, NC, she graduated from Smithfield High School and immediately went to Baltimore, Md with her twin sister, Margaret, to work for G.L. Martin, in the experimental department building bombers and seaplanes until World War II was over. She met and married her husband, Hayes, there.
Upon moving to Charlotte, she was employed in several secretarial positions, ultimately completing her distinguished work career as regional secretary for IDS (now Enterprise) for 25 years -- twelve years in Charlotte and thirteen years in Atlanta. She was a dedicated and highly-regarded employee, and maintained lifelong friendships with those with whom she worked. She retired in 1985. Upon retiring she spent her final glorious years on Lake Norman where she enjoyed watching nature, her garden and the beauty of the Lake. She was happy, grateful and alert until her dying breath. She was a joy and gift to the world.
She is survived by her two nieces, Dr. Carol Lewis of Lake Norman, Linda Whiteman of Greenville, SC, great nephew, Steve Lewis of Wrightsville Beach, NC, great niece, Angi Stringer of Greenville, SC, three nephews, Rev. Bob Chiles of Greenville, SC, Iwan Clontz of Monroe, NC and Dan Brooks of Vero Beach, FL, and her beloved great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held at Grace Covenant Church, 17301 Statesville Rd., Cornelius, NC 28031 on Sunday, September 14, at 3:00 p.m.
