Jo Ann S. Blaschke, 77, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2014, following a heart attack. The youngest daughter of the late Hubert R. and Lillian A. Snead, Jo Ann was born on December 26, 1936, in Four Oaks, NC. A 1955 graduate of Four Oaks High School, she earned a BS in Early Childhood Education from Campbell College in 1976. She taught primary and elementary school in Johnston and Harnett Counties; she also taught briefly at Merritt Academy in Fairfax, VA. She was married to the late Cooper Beasley of Four Oaks in 1957; they had three daughters and were divorced in 1981. In 1990, she married the late Ronald (Andy) Anderson. Although she resided for many years in Bentonville, Smithfield and Angier, NC, following her retirement Jo Ann moved to Fairfax, VA where she met and married Charlie Blaschke in 2008. The couple relocated first to Summerville, SC and finally to Roanoke VA in 2011.
Jo Ann was a devout Christian, and served as an active member of several church communities including Light of Christ International Outreach Center in Smithfield, NC, Jubilee Christian Center in Fairfax, VA, Faith Assembly of God in Summerville, SC, and New Covenant Assembly of God in Roanoke, VA.
Beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, teacher and friend, Jo Ann was a vivacious, fun-loving and creative spirit. She was a gifted teacher, whose students adored her. She was also gifted at sewing, knitting, crocheting and cross-stitching, and she delighted in giving her beautiful, intricate handiwork to friends and family. Jo Ann’s interests and talents were many, ranging from drawing and sketching to square dancing, pickle-making, gardening and playing piano. She had a keen interest in North Carolina history, and she particularly loved taking her students on field trips to historical sites. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed spending time on the NC coast and in the mountains, where she had always wanted to live. Moving to Roanoke was a dream come true for her. Jo Ann also made two memorable trips to Germany to visit her beloved friend Lisa Worley; her time sightseeing in Bavaria was among her most cherished memories.
Jo Ann is survived by her loving husband Charlie E Blaschke (CSM, USA); daughters Beth Beasley (Michael Weiser) of Hampton, VA; Paula Beasley of Raleigh, NC, and Catherine Beasley of Cary, NC; stepdaughter Karen Blaschke Cole (Richard Cole, sons Richard and Aaron) of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; stepson Brent Blaschke (Julia Blaschke, sons Thomas and Matthew, daughter Audrey) of Nokesville, VA; grandchildren Joey and Alan Osuna of Raleigh; Patrick and Liam Duffy of Cary; nieces Evelyn Rose Exum of Johnston County; Carolyn Sue Pittman of Locust, NC; Amy Hinton White Vickery; nephews Harvey S.
