Minnie Lee Eason Wellman, 77, passed away February 9 at Rex Hospital. She was born August 4, 1937 to Charles Bernard Eason and Grace Irene Bunn of Johnston County, N.C.
Growing up in Johnston County, she graduated from Selma High School in 1955 salutatorian and secretary of her graduating class. After high school she attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC. In 1957 she married John Wilson Wellman of Mann, WV and they settled in Raleigh.
She started her career in advertising with the JT Howard agency before becoming an original member of the McKinney & Silver Advertising Agency. Working at the agency for over thirty years, she retired as Senior Vice President of Production. She worked for the Chisholm Agency for a short time before retiring again to then become personal assistant for Charles McKinney. She loved antiques. Most recently, she enjoyed working with her dear friends at Affordable Chic.
In addition to her parents, her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn Labus (Charlottesville) and her husband, Jim; grandchildren, Alexandra and Connor.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful family and friends who have helped and supported us with your thoughts, deeds and prayers. A special thank you to the many doctors, nurses and staff at Rex Hospital and Cancer Center, and Universal Healthcare of North Raleigh who provided care during her illness.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Millbrook United Methodist Church at 1712 East Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. Friends are invited to celebrate Lee’s life in the church youth building immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
